Torment & Passion by Lauren Kate

In my opinion, this is the problem with time-travel books. I felt the same thing about "The Time Travelers Wife". In this book Luce comments repeatedly about how she couldn't have changed things too drastically with her time-travel shennanigans because she could still remember her future - and she was still alive. So, since Daniel, Luce, and Lucifer all traveled back to the Fall - and Luce and Lucifer (Hmmmm....never noticed the similarity there!) and Daniel all try to change things about the Fall, then how come when Luce and Daniel go back to the present time everything is the same and they have 9 days to "change it". Wouldn't it already be changed? Also, why did Lucifer drop Luce so that Daniel could catch her (when Lucifer took Luce back to the Fall)?

Too much time spent time traveling. I actually like the premise of the books. I understand why Luce felt like she needed to go back in time to find some understanding of "the curse". I mean no one would tell her what was going on in her present, so how else was she going to figure it out? But, there was too much time traveling for the amount of info that she received. I felt like a lot of it was repetitive declarations of love between Luce and Daniel. "Oh, does Daniel REALLY love me in this time???" Blah, blah blah. Yes Luce, Daniel really loved you in Russia, in Italy, in England, etc, etc. Too much teenage angst (aka Bella pining after Edward). Also, I never really understood why no one could tell her what was going on! It's not like the Angels (Fallen or not) would die if they told her the story of "The Fall". Again, I think the actual story is a good one, but there were too many distractions from the main storyline.

I have to give the author some credit though. I definitely had some questions while reading (like: did Luce look like an American when she was in Russia, Italy, Tahiti...? When she arrived in China this question popped to the front of my mind!) Anyway, she ended up answering a lot of my questions as the book progressed. In the above example, when Luce landed in China, it was finally explained the Luce would recognize her SOUL from each past life since they would physically look different. In my opinion though, that should have been explained earlier! So, most of my questions were answered I guess, by the end of the book. (Unlike other books I have read).

Well, here's another thing that bothered me: when Daniel goes back to the time of "The Fall", the angels are supposed to choose between free will (Lucifer) and the God representative "The Throne". (Why didn't she just say "God"?) Anyway, Daniel speaks up and says he chooses "Love". Well, isn't God "Love"? Daniel was actually choosing to put his feelings for a mortal teenager ahead of his love for God. I can see why God wasn't happy. ;)

The set up for the fourth and final book in this series is a good one though. They have only 9 days to stop Lucifer from "wiping the slate clean". Maybe that means a more fast-paced book! I need to clarify this statement: this was definitely a "fast read" but definitely not a "fast-paced" book! The author needs to stop bogging down the story by telling us 120 times how much Luce and Daniel love each other. We get it.
