Iron House by John Hart

This is the second novel that I have read by John Hart and I can definitely say that I will read his other novels. This novel engaged me from the beginning. It was fast paced, mysterious, and engaging. There were flawed characters to love and evil characters to hate. Can't go wrong there! I like that Michael was so intelligent. When he asked Abigail if she was his mother, I started wondering about a family connection, which I hadn't done previously. When we found out that Julian was schizophrenic, I still didn't think that Julian had killed those men, simply because he was too fragile. After Abigail told Michael that schizophrenia was hereditary (which I already knew), I was too busy worrying about Michael's future child to think beyond that. Even after Victorine told Michael that Julian had told her that Abigail had killed Ronnie (do you get that?) I STILL didn't suspect Abigail's involvement.

Good writing! I would have been depressed if Michael had killed his mother in the end. She was a despicable woman. He had every reason to get rid of this horrible person. But he didn't. He cared more about the person he was striving to be. I loved that about Michael. Again, I loved all of these flawed characters; Michael loving Elena and his unborn child; Julian with his fragile mental health and enormous artistic talent; Abigail and her will to survive and her fierceness in protecting her two surviving brothers; and finally Jessup, who spent his adult life loving and protecting Abigail.
