Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

I liked this book. I really couldn't anticipate how it was going to end, so it was a real page-turner for me. I became attached to several characters, including Macon, so I hope there is some way to "see" him again. Anything goes, right? I have always enjoyed reading books that are set in the deep south. Southerners have a different way of looking at things.....like the Civil War! I really appreciated Ethan's friend, Link. He stood by Ethan, even against his own mother. Everyone needs a friend like that: the faithful sidekick. And another faithful sidekick is Marian (to Ethan's mom). Love her too.

I am intrigued by the story line. I love the mixture of past and present, which affects the future. It's always interesting to learn about a different "culture" - in this case, Casters. Obviously, a main theme is good vs. evil, but I think it's interesting that there were hints that there are some gray areas in some of the "good" people and some of the "evil" people, like Macon, Lena, Ridley - and even Boo! Ethan and Lena's families are clearly linked - and have been for generations. It will be interesting to find out what it all means.

There are hints of Harry Potter (a good boy directly linked to evil), as is Lena; hints of Bella & Edward (young love determined to beat impossible odds); and no one really understanding the special powers of the young ones (Harry, Bella, Lena), especially they themselves. You really can't go wrong with a story line like this. It's a proven winner! :-) Looking forward to the next installment!
