I went back to read my posts on the first two books. It always makes me chuckle. Not sure why. Anyway, in my last post I talked about everyone having some good and some evil inside them, and their internal struggles between the two. Well, that became even more apparent in this third installment! Izabel/Sarafine is the perfect example of that internal struggle! I think Abraham may be the only character in this entire series that is truly evil to the bone. Good grief, even the "Demon Queen" is apparently neutral between "good" and "evil". Who knew, with a name like that!
I have to admit at his point that I have never read "The Crucible". Shame. And I was an English Major! I wish I had read it, since a lot of this book pertained to that particular story. I think I would have had more insight into some of the things that author was saying if I had that background information. Ethan was searching for the "crucible". Hmmm... well I didn't pick up on him being the crucible, but it did occur to me that he was a strong possibility for being the One Who is Two. Actually it was quite an obvious possibility since he kept facing himself in his dreams! But with that being said, there were several characters that qualified for this position. I was actually sad when John threw himself off the tower - because I very much believed that yes, it was him. I felt bad for Liv. But, the Demon Queen to the rescue! Again, who knew? ;) We were told over and over that using The Book of Moons could/would cause dire consequences. Well.....Ethan was brought back to life from death. Because of this, he ends up with a "fractured soul" - and slowly loses himself throughout this book. Those are some strong clues that I really didn't pick up on. I really didn't know what was happening with Ethan.
Poor Amma. Sold her soul to the devil to save Ethan. That's never a good idea. I'm hoping in the final book she can redeem herself. After all, she did it for love. (Ahhhh) I actually thought Link's mom might be on to something with her "end of days" preachings. I couldn't decide if Abraham was causing all of the mayhem, or if all of it was simply a result of the broken order from Lena claiming herself. Talk about a burden: Lena must of felt responsible for all of the disasters. Again, not everything was as it seemed.
I have decided (again) that it would be nice to read these "series of books" closer together. It's hard waiting for a year (or more Harry Potter) between books. It's difficult to retain all the details from book to book. I do like this story though. I'm very much looking forward to "Beautiful Redemption" (a promising title for a happier ending than this last book) - and the movies! I'm starting to wonder why all the intriguing series that are made into movies are written for "young adults"/teenagers. But......my favorite series to date, The Hunger Games, is the best of them all, in my opinion!
So now we ponder.......will Ethan survive his fall from the tower? Will his fractured self be reunited? Will love conquer all? Is Lena as "hot" as Edward is "cold". ;)
