I like this series. The "changes" throughout the book didn't bother me. There always seemed to be an explanation for each of them, so I took them all at face value. I think there is "good" and "evil" in each of the characters and each character wages a battle within themselves - or their families - to see which side will win out. The more powerful the character, the more difficult the battle. And I am always going to want good to trump evil, so I am happy with Macon and Ridley's changes! (Although Ridley's change, I am assuming, is a more temporary one).
I also saw this as a "transition" book, very similar to New Moon. You can't help but like Jacob after reading New Moon, right? Well, that's how much I liked Liv in this book! I think she is great with Ethan! Ethan, Link, and Liv reminded me SO MUCH of Harry, Ron, and Hermione - and I loved that! Link is funny. :-) To be honest, I didn't miss Lena that much. I'm sure she will be front and center in the next book though!
I didn't mind the traveling through the tunnels. I thought it was interesting how time was affected when they were underground. I liked the maps and the various family members popping up to help. I was wondering why it took Ethan so long to figure out that the cat was significant though. For awhile I thought the cat might actually be Macon! (I've apparently read too many books about shape-shifting). ;)
I am ready for #3. Bring it on....
