I thought this book was a faster read than "...Dragon Tattoo". Of course we already knew most of the characters, which is always a plus.
I'm glad we found out more about Lisbeth's childhood. Now I want to know more about her sister! Hope that comes in the next installment. I had no idea that "Zala" was Lisbeth's father. What an interesting twist! Now we know why Lisbeth has such a hard time trusting anyone: her evil dad, her stay at the mental hospital with the evil doctor, her pervert of a guardian. I wouldn't trust anyone either.
Lisbeth is a fiercely independent and driven woman. She doesn't ever appear to care about "appearances": her clothing, her hair, etc. So, why did she have a breast augmentation? She seems to me to be the type of person that wouldn't buy into that kind of thing. It's not like she didn't attract people (men and women!) before her surgery! Maybe her self-esteem is lower than I thought. Hmmmm.
A difficulty that I had with this book was keeping everyone straight in my mind. Why do authors use names that start with the same letter?? Blomkvist, Bjorck, Bjurman, Bublanski, Berger, Bland. Did I miss anyone? All those other letters in the alphabet.....
I really liked Holger Palmgren, and I was so happy to find out that he hadn't died after all. Blomkvist seems to be growing up a bit too. He wasn't such a playboy in this novel (sleeping around) and he was seriously concerned about what he had done to make Lisbeth upset with him. He seemed to respect her wishes, however, until it was apparent that she was in trouble and then he did whatever he could to save her.
I'm not sure I understand all the details and relationships between the mental hospital, Dr. Teleborian, Zala and his men, Bjurman, Bjork, Dag Svensson, (maybe I did at the time I read it, but I don't really now!) Stieg Larsson's books definitely have some complexities to them. I like the main characters though - and all their flaws and saving graces. I didn't like Berger as much in this segment because I can't believe she hasn't told Blomkvist yet that she is leaving. I won't miss her though, if she really goes! :-)
Finally, I like that fact that Blomkvist is always trying to get to the awful truths about things - and publish them, taking down the people responsible for such horrible acts. I am already wondering what he will be trying to expose in the next book!
I really didn't see how Lisbeth was going to get herself out being shot and buried alive! She obviously has a tenacious will to survive! Miracles happen every day though, and I have to say that Lisbeth's survival was indeed a miracle! :-)
