Linger & Forever by Maggie Stiefvater

I started reading Linger and could not figure out what the heck was going on! It took about 75-100 pages for me to really get into the story again. It had been too long since I read Shiver.  Anyway, I picked up bits and pieces of Shiver while reading the last two books, although some things I really don't remember all that well. With that being said, I liked this story - and loved the addition of Cole!

As much as I liked Sam, I did get frustrated with him occasionally because he seemed too paralyzed to ACT. Thank goodness for Cole and Isabel trying to "kick him in the butt" now and then to get him to actually do something. I realize that he had a lot of "baggage" - and a lot of emotional stuff going on - but so did almost everyone else.

This is a trilogy that did not have a "neat" ending.  I was a little disappointed about how fast it came, with some of my questions not even close to being answered. First of all, Beck. Good guy? Bad guy? Well, apparently some of both. This is fine I guess, but I don't really understand why the author didn't go into Beck's history a bit towards the end. How did his wife die? When did he become a wolf himself? We were led to infer that he "turned" Sam because Beck was upset that his wife died, right? I just thought a little more background on Beck would have been appropriate at that point in the story.

Also, Cole, I assume, ends up buying the resort from Officer Koenig; Isabel moves to California with her parents; Sam continues to be "cured"; Grace is hoping to be cured by the same technique that Sam was (meningitis injection while being a wolf); the wolves are living happily ever after on their new peninsula? Is Cole living there too - or in California? I Grace living in the resort too? Is Sam? What happened to Beck's house? Honestly, when you invest yourself into reading a story that is roughly 1100 pages long, the ending was awfully abrupt! I thought that Cole had come to the conclusion at one point that Sam's "cure" was only temporary?? And why was Cole able to live as a human without being infected with meningitis? Because of his drug use? Then why did Victor keep turning into a wolf? See: I have way too many questions that I don't feel were answered. Can anyone help me out? ;)

I know it probably sounds like I didn't like this story, but I did! I just didn't think it was finished properly! I liked Sam and Grace, but I loved Cole and Isabel! Oh, another question I had while reading: why was everyone that Beck "turned" a musician? Honestly, what are the odds of that? They all seemed like natural musicians too. Pretty lucky, since Sam was only 7 when he was bitten. Oh yeah, also, will someone remind me what the heck happened to Sam's parents after they tried to kill Sam? How did Sam survive their murder attempt? How did Beck get a hold of Sam?
